Mapping Inspiration

Mapping Inspiration

My graduation work consists of 2 projects (Mapping Inspiration and Finding Creativity) and a thesis on creativity.
In Mapping Inspiration I take a look at all the images that I have stored on my computer in the file 'inspiration' over the course of 4 years (the time I spend on the art academy). By reordering, categorizing and describing the images in a different way, I try to make sense of what inspires me and why it inspired me. I try to find patterns in this information that might help me find common rules or occurences that might help shed a light on the importance and influence of inspiration in my past, current and future work.

Apart from some datavisualisation, the project of Mapping Inspiration exists of 5 books: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, on which every page resembles 1 image and describes this image in several ways, without showing the image itself. The books together form a sort of datavisualisation sculpture, by showing how many images I collected and what type of images they were and why I selected them.

Images of the books will follow!
